Horrible Stay At Wyndham Ramada, Cocoa Beach, Florida

I stayed at the Wyndham Ramada in Cocoa Beach, Florida on January 27, 2024.  I had reservations for a wheelchair accessible room.

When I arrived, I unloaded my wheelchair and  rolled to the lobby to check in. Upon completing  the paperwork, I was assigned a wheelchair accessible room and received directions. The room was near the back of the property, so a pretty good distance from the lobby. I found that the room was in fact not wheelchair accessible and had a step up into the room, probably 5 inches or so.

I rolled all the way back to the office and reported that this was not a wheelchair accessible room I was told,  “yes it is didn’t you see the sign?”

I said the sign has nothing to do with its accessibility,  there is a step into the room. How am I supposed to get my wheelchair up a step?

The clerk’s reply was, “Oh.”

He called the manager and I had to wait while they lookedr for a wheelchair accessible room. The manager returned in about t 15 minutes and said that they do have one but it would be probably 30 minutes before the room was ready. I said okay,  I’ll wait.

After the appropriate time they gave me the keys to the new room and directions to get there. aI rolled back around, actually two doors down from the room I’d gone to initially.  This room was on the same level as the first one but it did have a ramp from the sidewalk up into the room. I got my overnight bag and computer set up and went to the bathroom.

There I found  a lovely roll-in shower… absolutely bare.  No seat no bench.  No soap dish.  No grab rails.  No place to hang a towel.   Nothing a bare shower stall. There wasn’t even a handheld shower and there was no shower curtain.

At this point I didn’t care.  It was a bed for the night.

When I got up the next morning I tried to shower as quickly as possible since  I can’t stand very long. And, of course,  the room got flooded.

Clearly this room was not wheelchair accessible as is advertised. Nor is it ADA compliant. On a scale from 1 to 10, my rating is minus 2.

I will not be returning to Wyndham Ramada of Cocoa Beach, Florida and do not recommend it for anyone in the disabled community..
