Day 3: Ancient Wonders and Colonial Charms: Exploring Chichen Itza and Valladolid
Morning:
Enjoy an early breakfast at the resort, you will need energy as this is a long day. Today, prepare for a leisurely yet awe-inspiring tour of Chichen Itza, a marvel of ancient engineering and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. After a comfortable 3-hour transfer in our accessible van, you’ll arrive at this magnificent site. The entrance is thoughtfully designed with a ramp to the ticket booth, and the flat, cemented pathways make it easy to explore.
Chichen Itza, a testament to the ingenuity of the Maya civilization, offers a glimpse into a world centuries old. As you meander through the ancient city, you’ll traverse paths of tightly packed dirt, sprinkled with loose stones and occasional tree roots, but it is always doable in a wheelchair. These trails are wide and accommodating, allowing you to move around at your own pace, taking in the monumental architecture and rich history.
The main ruin complex, the highlight of the site, is entirely flat, so there’s no need to worry about steep inclines. Do keep in mind that the area can be hot and humid, but we’ll guide you to shady spots along the edges of the ruins for rest. Accessible restrooms are conveniently located inside the main entrance building, with additional facilities in a nearby shopping area where you can also pick up souvenirs and snacks.
Depending on our group’s energy and time, we might make a quaint stop in Valladolid. This charming town is known for its Calzada de Los Frailes, a picturesque street adorned with colorful colonial houses. Here, you can enjoy the city’s beautiful architecture, capture memorable photos, and absorb the relaxed ambiance of this historic place.
Afternoon-Evening
As the day winds down, we’ll journey back to the hotel in our accessible vans. The ride, taking about 2.5 to 3 hours, is the perfect time to reflect on the day’s adventures. Upon returning to the Dreams Jade Resort & Spa, unwind with a satisfying dinner and refreshing drinks, capping off a day filled with wonder and relaxation.

We will stop at a couple of spots to take some nice pictures.
From here we will take you to La Isla. This is a one-of-a-kind shopping center where we will have lunch (not included) at one of the trendy restaurants. Whether you prefer local or international cuisine, there are plenty of wheelchair-accessible options to choose from.
Afternoon
After lunch we will stay for a little longer so that you have time to explore the shops and boutiques, maybe you’ll find something you like and you’ll take it back as a memory from this trip. Evening
Tonight, we’re excited to bring you an extraordinary and unforgettable experience at Xoximilco, where the vibrant heart of Mexico’s culture beats with joy and color. As the evening unfolds, you’ll find yourself immersed in a world where tradition and festivity blend beautifully.
Step aboard a trajinera, each a floating canvas of vivid colors and intricate floral patterns, with charming female names adorning the bow. As dusk turns to night, these boats light up the canal, creating a lively, picturesque scene.
Xoximilco’s staff are dedicated to ensuring a smooth and safe experience for everyone. They are ready to assist with boarding via a solid wheelchair ramp, carefully designed to provide safe and easy access to the trajinera. For safety and comfort, each boat accommodates up to two wheelchairs. We’ll be traveling in two adjacent trajineras, making the experience even more enjoyable as we float side by side, sharing in the festivities and camaraderie.
The canals come alive with the melodies of mariachi bands and marimba players, their music echoing over the water, providing a lively backdrop to our journey. This interactive musical experience is perfectly complemented by a delightful dinner aboard the trajinera. As you indulge in authentic Mexican cuisine, the flavors and rhythms of Mexico blend together, creating an unforgettable evening. The combination of live music, delicious food, and the gentle movement of the canal makes for a dining experience like no other.
As we cruise through the vibrant waterways of Xoximilco, you’ll be enveloped in an atmosphere that is both magical and heartwarming. This is more than a boat ride; it’s a celebration of the joyous spirit of Mexican heritage, accessible and enjoyable for all.
Join us for this memorable evening at Xoximilco, where culture, accessibility, and fun come together in a spectacular fiesta on the water. It’s an experience that promises laughter, connection, and memories that will linger long after our boats have returned to the shore.
