Access Adventure exists to help disabled travelers get accurate access information. A site about accessibility that is not itself accessible would be a poor advertisement for the idea, so we treat this page as a commitment we can be held to, not a formality.
Our target
We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA across accessadventure.net. We are not claiming full conformance. Parts of this site are decades old, and parts of it are supplied by third parties we do not control. Below is an honest account of where we stand.
What is in place
- A “Skip to content” link as the first focusable element on every page.
- Semantic landmarks — header, navigation, main, and footer — so screen-reader users can jump between regions.
- A declared page language, and one main
<h1>per page with headings in a logical order. - Text alternatives on meaningful images; decorative images are marked so assistive technology skips them.
- Labelled form fields, including the contact form and checkout.
- Navigation that works by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator.
- Responsive layout that reflows to 320px width and supports browser zoom to 200% without loss of content.
- Body text that meets AA contrast against its background, and content that does not rely on colour alone to convey meaning.
- No auto-playing audio, and no content that flashes more than three times per second.
Known limitations
We would rather list these than pretend they do not exist.
- Third-party advertising and affiliate widgets. The cruise search tool and the advertising served on this site come from external providers. We do not control their markup, and some of it does not meet AA — for example, tracking images without text alternatives, and form controls whose labelling we cannot alter. We are working to reduce our reliance on these components.
- Older articles. The archive runs to more than two thousand posts going back several years. Some older entries have images with thin or missing alt text, tables used without proper headers, or link text such as “click here”. We correct these as we find them, and we prioritise pages readers actually reach.
- Embedded video and podcast players. These are third-party embeds. Captions depend on what is available on the host platform. Our YouTube videos carry captions; some older episodes rely on auto-generated captions, which are imperfect.
- The Cruise Access Field Guide PDF. The PDF is a visually designed document. It is tagged and searchable, but a complex print layout is never the easiest thing to read with a screen reader — so every purchase also includes an accessible HTML reader containing the same content in a simple, linear, fully navigable format. The HTML edition is our recommended format for anyone using assistive technology, and it costs nothing extra.
How we test
We check pages with automated tooling for structural issues — landmarks, heading order, alt text, form labels, contrast — and we test keyboard navigation manually. Automated testing catches perhaps a third of real accessibility problems, which is why the next section matters more than this one.
Tell us when we get it wrong
If you hit a barrier on this site, we want to hear about it, and we will treat it as a defect rather than a suggestion.
Please tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, and what happened — plus your browser and any assistive technology you use, if you are comfortable sharing it. That detail helps us reproduce the problem quickly.

We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within two business days and to tell you either that it is fixed or what our timeline is. If you cannot reach some content and you need it, ask us and we will get it to you in another format at no charge.
If we do not resolve it
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the US Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, which enforces the Americans with Disabilities Act, at ada.gov or 800-514-0301 (TTY 833-610-1264).
