San Diego’s Accessible Old Town Trolley Tours

I have long been a huge fan of Trolley Tours. They give one the chance to witness multiple highlights of an area, and usually, the trolley drivers provide a running dialogue that is always humorous and entertaining. For the past 5 or 6 years, since I developed mobility challenges, and require a scooter since I can only walk about 30 feet, finding an accessible trolley tour has become quite another challenge.

Old Town Trolley Tours

I have been on 14 cruises so far in 2022, and have not found a single accessible trolley tour at any of the ports of call. However, I have not been to San Diego.

Old Town Trolley Tours of San Diego not only offers accessible trolley tours, they have three vehicles equipped with lifts. Each has two spaces for wheelchairs or scooters. Still, it is best to request an accessible vehicle 24 hours in advance.

Trolley Lift

Old Town Trolley Tours has delighted millions of visitors to San Diego since 1989 and provides a lively narration by entertaining and award-winning conductors. It is also the only Hop On-Hop Off type of tour in San Diego that allows unlimited free reboarding all day. They offer an easy-to-use interactive map that will help you maximize your Trolley Tour experience, so you won’t miss all the excitement that San Diego has to offer! And since it works great on mobile devices, you’ll have all the information you need during your trip, right in your pocket.

Trolleys depart every 30 minutes from several popular San Diego locations. Each tour is a minimum 2 hours, with option for all day. There are 11 stops to exit, sightsee, shop, dine and re-board.

Disabilities other than mobility challenges? Old Town Trolley Tours offer written scripts of tours and additional description tours available for persons with vision disabilities. The next time I am in San Diego, either before or after a cruise sailing from there, or as a cruise port of call, Old Town Trolley Tours is a must.
