Novotel Perth Murray Street was the first stop on our Western Australia holiday and it provided us with a super comfortable overnight stay in Perth. It’s Perth’s newest hotel and the excellent accessible accommodation and central location proved a winning combination for our family. Whether you are travelling for business or pleasure we hope our review of Novotel Perth Murray Street will assist you with your stay in Perth.

Novotel Perth Murray Street
First impressions count and on a travel day we always appreciate ease of access on arrival. Novotel’s automatic opening entry doors and check-in desks at a good height were a good start. How nice for Braeden to be able to look the hotel staff in the eye and see their smiles. How we wish more hotels would lower their check-in desks – it’s so much more welcoming.

As a family of four adults we need space so we were happy to be staying in a superior accessible room with an interconnecting room.

Stylish furnishings, floor to ceiling windows and artwork from the region was a welcome sight as we entered room 1812 at Novotel Perth Murray Street. Even with our copious amounts of luggage the accommodation offered generous circulation space and room on either side of the bed for transferring from a wheelchair if needed.
For guests travelling with a friend or support person you can request for the king-size bed be split into two beds. Just be sure to mention it at the time of booking.

It’s always refreshing to find an accessible room that offers a dining table and chairs without becoming cluttered. We know many in our Have Wheelchair Will Travel community like having access to a table in a room but often it just becomes an obstacle. Not in this room.
Bedroom facts – entry door clearance 89cm, bed height 65cm and under bed clearance 13cm.

Accompanying the generously sized bedroom area is a large accessible bathroom equipped with a shower bench, height adjustable shower head, grab rails and a toilet with a backrest.

All amenities are at a lowered height including soap dispensers, towels and light switches. There is access under the basin for access for a wheelchair user and taps are operated by easy to use levers.
Bathroom facts – bathroom door clearance 89cm, shower bench height 48cm, toilet height to pan 45cm and toilet height to seat 47cm.

Hanging space is at a standard height, however the safe, hair dryer and iron are at a lowered level.

A bar fridge is always handy for storing drinks and snacks and my tea addiction was satisfied with in-room tea and coffee making facilities.
Interconnecting room

The interconnecting room was smaller in size but combined with the accessible room we had all the space we needed for an overnight stay.

A step-free shower makes even standard rooms more accessible to many guests who may need ease of access but not need all the bells and whistles of a fully accessible room.

An extensive buffet breakfast is offered in the restaurant and access is good throughout.

Plates and food are located at a good height. Many hotels are embracing cast iron bakeware with lids for their hot food and while aesthetically pleasing, they are heavy for people to lift. For elderly guests and people living with various disabilities the weight of these lids is problematic. I am hopeful it is a trend that comes and goes quickly.
For guests looking to take advantage of Perth’s lovely climate Novotel Perth Murray Street has a pool with a Kingfisher pool hoist.

Location

Novotel Perth Murray Street is in a central location with shopping and dining right at its door. From Kmart to Gucci there’s a shopping experience for all tastes and budgets. It’s also handy to have a Woolworths supermarket and many smaller convenience stores within a short walk or wheel away. Just keep in mind that Western Australians appreciate a good work life balance so stores don’t have the same long trading hours as they do in other states. We were a little surprised to find that on a Sunday morning 11am was the standard opening time for many. The upside to that was that we took the time to wander the streets and laneways and found lots of beautiful street art. It was also incredibly peaceful. There are definite advantages to a slower start to a weekend.
We also enjoyed a walk to Elizabeth Quay which is an area we’d like to return to one day to explore more.
Tip- if you are using a taxi or transportation to the hotel, make sure you specify Novotel Perth Murray Street as there is more than one Novotel in the heart of Perth.
Our stay at Novotel Perth Murray Street was hosted by Tourism Western Australia but as always our opinions are our own and we hope that the information provided will allow you to decide if the access suits your needs.
