It’s hard to believe that we’ve rounded the corner on the year and are entering its final quarter, but we’re lucky because October is one of the best months of the year when it comes to festivals and events. From Oktoberfest parties and Renaissance fairs to fests dedicated to statehood, sheep and one of the most beloved regional food items in the nation, October events in 2025 run the gamut of great times. To say nothing of the haunted Halloween happenings. Scroll down to find out which one of the best October events is happening near you, or use this list as motivation for a fall road trip.

The Big Fresno Fair – Fresno, California

The Big Fresno Fair is back on October 1-12, packing in two full weeks of family fun, entertainment and lots of local flavor. Here, you’ll be able to enjoy thrilling horse racing events, carnival rides and a wide array of tasty fair food and Western vibes. Music lovers will be treated to a top-notch concert lineup featuring Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, YG, Dustin Lynch, Lupillo Rivera, Eve 6, Lit and more.

Austin, Austin City Limits Festival

Austin City Limits – Austin, Texas

October in the Texas capital means one of the Lone Star State’s most iconic events: Austin City Limits. This festival will return for two weekends (October 3-5 and October 10-12), once again transforming the city’s Zilker Park into a music lover’s paradise. Stars set to take the stage this year are Hozier, Luke Combs, Cage the Elephant, Empire of the Sun, Sabrina Carpenter, The Strokes, The Killers, T-Pain and many more.

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta – Albuquerque, New Mexico

Easily the most famous ballooning festival in the nation, this iconic event will once again take to the skies over the Southwest (October 4-12). Hundreds of colorful balloons will fill the sky each day while evenings feature the enchanting balloon “glows” that light up the desert night. But the balloons aren’t the only fun, as the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta also features fireworks, live music and a wide selection of delicious food & drink.

Ohio Renaissance Festival, fair

Ohio Renaissance Festival – Harveysburg, Ohio

Step back in time at this beloved event (weekends throughout October 26), where the grounds are turned into a bustling village straight out of the Renaissance era, complete with costumed performers, jousting tournaments and magical stage shows. From wandering minstrels to fire-breathing entertainers and plenty of turkey legs, the festival offers an enchanting experience.

Fleet Week – San Francisco, California

Salute our nation’s sea-based service members in San Francisco with the lively annual tradition of Fleet Week (October 5-13). This patriotic party will once again see the City by the Bay come alive with a parade of impressive naval ships, thrilling air shows, live concerts and guided ship tours that give visitors a behind-the-scenes look at life at sea.

Sun Valley, Idaho, trailing of the sheep

Trailing of the Sheep Festival – Sun Valley, Idaho

Make your way to Sun Valley for the 29th Annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival (October 8-12), a one-of-a-kind celebration of the region’s rich ranching heritage and agricultural traditions. Expect a range of Western fun like sheepdog trials, hands-on demonstrations, arts & crafts and lots of great things to eat and drink. The highlight of the weekend is the world-famous Big Sheep Parade, where hundreds of sheep make their way through town, delighting all in attendance.

National Shrimp Festival – Gulf Shores, Alabama

Everybody’s favorite crustacean will take center stage once again at the 52nd Annual National Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores (October 9-12). This beachside bash features a mouthwatering mix of fresh seafood (think shrimp cooked every way imaginable including gumbo, crab cakes and other Gulf Coastal favorites). The event also features great live music across multiple stages, local art vendors and plenty of libations.

Black Hills Pow Wow – Rapid City, South Dakota

The 37th Annual Black Hills Pow Wow returns to Rapid City on October 10-12, offering all in attendance a thrilling (and historically rich) celebration of Native American culture. This vibrant event showcases traditional dance, music and storytelling, while also giving visitors a chance to experience traditional customs firsthand. In addition, you’ll be able to shop for handmade crafts & jewelry while sampling Native cuisine.

Apple-Scrapple Festival – Bridgeville, Delaware

The Mid-Atlantic’s most talked-about pork-centric treat gets the spotlight it deserves at the annual Apple-Scrapple Festival (October 10-11). This tasty tradition brings together locals and foodie visitors for two days of delicious food, lively entertainment and family-friendly fun.

Alaska Day Festival – Sitka, Alaska

The charming coastal town of Sitka will once again roll out the red carpet for Alaska Day, marking the historic anniversary of Alaska’s official transfer from Russia to the United States in 1867 with a week full of fun (October 11-18). The festivities include but are certainly not limited to reenactment ceremonies, lively dances, a brew cruise and a parade that winds through the heart of town.

Tulsa, Oktoberfest, Linde Oktoberfest Tulsa

Oktoberfest – Tulsa, Oklahoma

Head to T-Town from October 16-19 for one of the nation’s best Oktoberfest celebrations. In Tulsa, German culture, music and traditional food are celebrated with gusto in a festive atmosphere where everyone can be Bavarian for the day. Expect the usual array of classic German fare like bratwurst & pretzels and performers who bring energy and entertainment to every corner of the festival grounds.

Hawai’i Food & Wine Festival – Various Locations

Food lovers won’t want to miss the 15th annual edition of this beloved event (October 17 – November 2), which will bring together some of the world’s top chefs, mixologists and culinary experts. Spread across multiple venues in the Aloha State, this celebration offers everything from intimate tastings and cooking demonstrations to grand gala dinners and sunset soirees.

Luminights at Dollywood

Harvest Festival – Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

The most anticipated autumn event in the Volunteer State will run daily through October 27, once again offering visitors the chance to stroll through the park surrounded by brilliant fall foliage and enjoy seasonal decorations that celebrate the magic of the season. But the real fun begins after the sun goes down, as the park comes to life during Great Pumpkin LumiNights, where thousands of twinkling lights and jack-o-lanterns create an autumnal wonderland. Beyond the stunning visuals, the festival also offers live music, eye-catching themed food and drink, craft demonstrations and plenty more family-friendly activities.

Bridge Day – New River Gorge, West Virginia

West Virginia’s dramatic New River Gorge Bridge will once again be the center of attention during the annual Bridge Day (October 18) event, a once-a-year event where adventure-seekers are legally allowed to BASE jump off the span. Even if jumping off bridges isn’t your bag, feel free to join the thousands of spectators set to gather to watch the daredevils soar while soaking in the breathtaking views of the gorge below and the all-around festival atmosphere of the day.

Emma Crawford Coffin Races and Festival

Emma Crawford Coffin Races and Festival – Manitou, Colorado

Get ready for one of the wildest and woolliest events anywhere at the 31st Annual Emma Crawford Coffin Races and Festival (October 25). This offbeat and slightly spooky celebration honors Emma Crawford, a historic resident of town whose coffin reportedly rolled down a nearby hill. Expect teams of costumed participants racing creatively decorated coffins through the streets, accompanied by live music, local food vendors and plenty of wacky fun for the whole family.
